How To Download & Install the Fabric Mod Loader

In this article, we show you how to download and install the Fabric Mod Loader. What is the Fabric Mod Loader? Well, it is a mod loader that will allow you to install some truly incredible mods that are built on Fabric. From Xaero's Minimap to AppleSkin to InventoryHUD+, there are tons of different Fabric Mods that work with the Fabric Mod Loader, and this video will show you how to get the Fabric Mod Loader installed to start playing those mods!

How To Download & Install the Fabric Mod Loader

Step 1) Download the Fabric Mod Loader

The first step of getting the Fabric Mod Loader is of course downloading it. You can get to the official Fabric Mod Loader download page by clicking the yellow ‘Download Fabric' button above or by clicking here. Once you are on the Fabric download page, you will see a ‘Download Installer (Universal/.JAR) button. Click that, and Fabric will instantly start downloading. You will need to keep or save the file depending on your browser.

Step 2) Open The Fabric Mod Loader Installer

After you have Fabric downloaded, the file will actually be called ‘fabric-installer'. Right, click on this file, select open with, click Java, and click ‘Okay'. If you don't have Java, you can go through our tutorial on getting Java for Minecraft by clicking here. When you do this, the Fabric Installer will open up.

Step 3) Install Fabric for The Minecraft Version You Want

With the Fabric installer open, you will see a drop-down box with a version of Minecraft in it. Click this and select the version of Minecraft you want to play your Fabric mods in. The, make sure ‘create profile' is select and click ‘Install'. A pop-up will then appear saying that Fabric has been successfully installed. If Fabric doesn't install successfully, it is because you need to go play the version of Minecraft you want to install Fabric in without any mods or anything. Then, repeat steps two and three and Fabric will install!

Step 4) Open Minecraft & Select Fabric

With Fabric installed, we need to make sure that we are playing Minecraft with Fabric. To do this, open up the Minecraft launcher and click the little arrow next to the Play button. You will then see a ‘Fabric' profile here. Click that installation and click ‘Play'. Minecraft will then open up with the Fabric mod loader installed!

Step 5) Install Some Mods

The Fabric Mod Loader isn't really worth using if you don't have any Fabric Mods for it. Thus, we recommend getting Fabric mods as quickly as possible to get the best Fabric experience. The download process for every Fabric mod is different just make sure that the mod you are downloading is for the same version of Minecraft as the Fabric Mod Loader you installed. If not, the mod will not work.

When it comes to installing Fabric mods, we have a dedicated video on doing this here. However, it is actually pretty easy. Just press the Windows Key on your Keyboard and ‘R' at the exact same time. This will open the Run app. In the text box in this app, type ‘%appdata%' and hit enter. You will then see a .minecraft folder. Open that, and you will see a ‘mods' folder. If you don't, create one! Finally, drag-and-drop the Fabric mods you want to install into this folder and restart Minecraft. Just make sure you open it with the Fabric version you installed. When it opens your Minecraft Fabric mods will be in-game!

Step 7) Enjoy Your Mods!

Congratulations! You now know how to download and install the Fabric Mod Loader and add some mods to it. Fabric mods are some of the coolest mods in Minecraft, and they usually update faster than mods on other mod loaders. This is great if you want to use mods in the newest version of Minecraft quickly after it is released.
