How To Download & Install Vault on Your Minecraft Server

This article shows you how to download and install Vault on your Minecraft server. What is Vault? Well, it is a plugin that allows plugins to talk to each other. Basically, it is an API for things like chat, server economies, and permissions, and it lets other plugins hook into these systems in order to use them. For example, EssentialsX and ShopGUIPlus are able to work together to create an economy on your server because of Vault. It also allows plugins to read and filter chat, and depending on your permissions system, can even help plugins read permissions on your server. So, without any more delay, here is how to add Vault to your Minecraft server!

How To Download & Install Vault on Your Minecraft Server

Step 1) Start Bukkit, Spigot, or Paper Server

The first step of installing any plugin on a server is making sure that you have a server that works with plugins setup for Minecraft. You have a few options for this. You can start a Bukkit, Spigot, or Paper server, and they will all work with plugins. In truth though, we would recommend a Paper server as it is the most efficient and lag-free option. You can find our tutorial on setting up a Paper server linked above. You cannot install plugins on a server unless it is one of these types of servers. Once you have your server setup, you can move on to installing Vault!

Download Spigot Plugin

Step 2) Download Vault

Now, before we can install Vault we need to download it. Luckily, this is super simple and the same no matter what plugin you are downloading. You can find the official download page for Vault by clicking the green ‘Download Vault' button towards the top of this page. Once you do that, it will take you to Vault's download page. Here, you will see a blue download button towards the right side of the page across from the title of the plugin. Click this, and Vault will begin downloading. You will need to keep the file in the bottom left of Google Chrome or save it in the center of your screen on Mozilla Firefox. It is completely safe to save.

Install Bukkit Plugins

Step 3) Install Vault & Restart Your Server

You have Vault downloaded, and we need to get it installed. This is actually extremely easy on Minecraft servers. Just take the plugin that you downloaded and drag-and-drop it into your ‘plugins' folder within your server. If you don't have a plugins folder, see step 1 to make sure you get the correct type of server setup.

Once you have added your plugin to the plugins folder, just restart your server to finish the installation process. It is that simple and that easy to install Vault on your Minecraft server!

Step 4) Find Vault's Config Files

One thing I did want to mention before finishing this tutorial off is where you can find your plugin's configuration files. These are super simple to find. Just look in your ‘plugins' folder within your server. Here you will see a folder with the name of the plugin you have installed. Open that up, and you will find all of Vault's config files. Feel free to edit and change them all you want. We personally recommend using the Atom text editor for the best results!

Step 5) Enjoy Vault

Congratulations! Vault is now installed! If you have any questions about getting Vault setup on your Minecraft server, be sure to post a comment below, and we will try ou best to help you out!
