XRay for Minecraft Java Edition will allow you to easily see ores, chests, and other important blocks and items through other blocks. This is great if you want to speed up gaming, but remember that XRay is banned on most Minecraft servers. You should only use the Minecraft XRay texture pack in single-player.

This specific guide will show you how to get XRay in Minecraft Java Edition using the XRayUltimate resource pack. With this resource pack, you get all of the benefits of XRay without having to deal with mod loaders or anything else but the XRay resource pack itself.

What this XRay tutorial will cover:

How To Download XRay in Minecraft Java Edition

Step 1) Accessing the XRayUltimate Download Page

Before you can download the XRay texture pack, you need to make sure that you are accessing the correct download page. Click here to access to the official XRay Ultimate download page. You can also access it via the big Download XRay Ultimate button at the top of this page.

Step 2) Downloading XRayUltimate

Once you are on the XRayUltimate download page, it's really easy to download it. Just look at the right-hand sidebar and scroll down to the Recent Files section. Under this, you will see different versions of XRayUltimate. Click the orange download button next to the version you want. When you do, the download will start after a few seconds.

You may need to keep or save the XRay texture pack depending on your browser.

How To Install the XRay Texture Pack

Step 1) Opening Minecraft

Luckily, the XRay resource pack doesn't require any additional mods or add-ons to work. However, you do need to open up Minecraft to the main menu as that is where we will be starting to get it installed.

Step 2) Accessing The Resource Pack Section

With Minecraft open, click on Options from the main menu. This will open up a page where you will see a ‘Resource Packs' option. Click on that, and you will be taken to the resource pack menu. Here, you can manage your resource packs, and easily access the Resource Pack folder to add new texture packs and more.

Step 3) Installing XRay in Minecraft Java Edition

Finally, we can install XRayUltimate. To do this, click the ‘Open Pack Folder' button to open up the resourcepacks folder. Now, all you need to do to install XRayUltimate is drag-and-drop it into the resourcepacks folder that you just opened. That's it! When you do, you can close the folder and go back to Minecraft.

Step 4) Activating XRayUltimate

Now that the XRay texture pack is installed, you need to activate it. Go back to the Resource Packs menu in Minecraft, and you will see XRayUltimate in the ‘Available' section. If it is red and says incompatible, that is okay.

Hover over it, and click the arrow that appears. This will move it to the ‘Selected' section. You may get a warning asking ‘Are you sure you want to load this pack?'. If you do, click the ‘Yes' button.

Now, click ‘Done' at the bottom of the resource pack menu, and XRayUltimate will activate. You can now use XRay in Minecraft Java Edition.

Playing Minecraft with XRayUltimate

How To See Ores, Chests, Etc.

When you first start using XRay, you will probably quickly realize that it is hard to see ores and other things when you are underground. The reason for this is due to how Minecraft handles lighting.

Luckily, there are two solutions.

The first is using a night vision potion. These can be brewed or spawned in using commands, and with them, you can easily see everything underground like you are right next to it.

The second solution is using a mod that adds in a full bright feature. OptiFine is the most popular mod that does, but there are others out there.

Turning XRayUltimate On and Off In-Game

You probably don't want to use XRay all the time. The good news is that you can enable and disable XRayUltimate while playing Minecraft.

Just pause the game using escape, and from the pause menu, select the ‘Options' button. Then, click the ‘Resource Packs' button to access the Resource Packs menu.

From this menu, you can hover over XRay Ultimate, click the arrow that appears and move it back to the ‘Available' section. Click done, and XRay is turned off.

You can enable XRay by going back to the resource packs menu and moving it back to the ‘Selected' section.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I see better with XRay installed?

Minecraft has weird lighting when you are using an XRay texture pack. In order to fix this, you can either drink a night vision potion or install a full bright mod. OptiFine is an example of a mod that has a full bright feature.

Can I use XRay on a Minecraft server?

In short, no, I wouldn't use XRay on any public Minecraft servers. If you are hosting a server through someone like SimpleGameHosting, you can use XRay all you want as you are the one hosting and controlling the server.

For public servers though, using XRay will get you banned, and on many servers, it simply will not work at all.

Do you need OptiFine to use XRay?

No, OptiFine is not needed in order to use the XRayUltimate texture pack. It can help you see ores, chests, etc. while using XRay, but it is not required.

How can I get XRay for Minecraft Bedrock?

XRay for Minecraft Bedrock is a completely different process, and we actually have an XRay texture pack of our own. You can check it out on our downloads page. You will also find a tutorial there on how to get Bedrock XRay installed.

Are there other XRay texture packs I can use?

There are other XRay texture packs, and they are installed in the exact same way as XRayUltimate. We recommend XRayUltimate here because it is a very long-standing and trustworthy pack with millions of downloads. It is also very quick to update to Minecraft versions when they are released.

Can you disable the XRay resource pack in-game?

Yes, you can! It's super easy to turn XRay on and off in-game.

First, pause Minecraft. You can use the escape to do this in most cases.

Then, from the pause menu, click on ‘Options'. Next, click the ‘Resource Packs' button.

The Resource Packs menu will open. This is the same Resource Packs menu you used when installing XRayUltimate.

Finally, to disable the XRay texture pack while playing Minecraft, hover over it in the ‘Selected' section and click the arrow that appears. This will move it to the ‘Available' section. When you click done, the XRay texture pack will no longer be active.
