Minecraft Book Editor

This is our Minecraft book editor. Write custom written books with bold, italic, underlined, strikethrough, and colored text across multiple pages, then export the finished /give command.

Written books in Minecraft are items that players can read, copy, and share. They support rich text formatting including bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, obfuscated text, and all 16 Minecraft colors. However, creating formatted books in-game requires writing raw JSON text components in a command, which is complex and easy to get wrong.

This tool provides a visual editor where you type your text, highlight sections, and apply formatting with buttons. The tool handles the JSON conversion and generates a /give command you can paste into the game to create the book.

Create custom written books with styled text and generate the /give command.

How to Use the Book Editor

Start by entering a book title and author name in the fields at the top. The title appears on the book cover, and the author name appears on the title page.

Type your text in the page editor below. To format text, select the text you want to format and click one of the formatting buttons: Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough, or Obfuscated. To add color, select the text and click a color button from the color row.

To add more pages, click “+ Add Page.” Each page has a character limit based on Minecraft’s display width, which varies depending on formatting. The editor lets you manage multiple pages.

When your book is complete, click “Generate Command” to create the /give command. Copy the command, open the Minecraft chat window by pressing T, paste it, and press Enter. The book will appear in your inventory as a finished written book that can be read, copied, and placed in lecterns.

Minecraft written books can have up to 100 pages. Each page has a character limit based on the display width, which changes depending on formatting.

Can other players read my custom book?

Yes. Written books can be read by any player who picks them up. They can also be placed on lecterns for multiple players to read at the same time.

Can I copy the book in-game?

Yes. You can place a written book and a book and quill on a crafting table together to create a copy.

Does this work for Bedrock Edition?

No. The /give command syntax for written books with formatted text is specific to Java Edition. Bedrock Edition uses a different command format.
