This is our Minecraft custom sign generator. Pick a wood type, set a text color, toggle glow ink, type your lines, and copy the command to place a styled sign in your world.
Signs in Minecraft can display up to 4 lines of text and come in 11 different wood types. Since the 1.20 update, signs also support text color and glow ink (from glow ink sacs), which makes the text glow and become more readable.
Creating a custom sign through commands is more flexible than placing one manually because you can set the text color and glow effect without needing the ink items. This tool generates the command for you, so you just copy, paste, and place.

How to Use the Sign Generator
Start by selecting a wood type from the Sign Type dropdown. Options include oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, dark oak, mangrove, cherry, bamboo, crimson, and warped.
Next, set the text color from the Text Color dropdown and toggle Glow Ink on or off. Glow ink makes the text appear brighter and more visible, especially in dark areas.
Type your sign text in the 4 line fields. Each line has a maximum of 15 characters. The preview on the right updates as you type so you can see what the sign will look like.
When your sign is ready, click “Copy Command” to copy the placement command. Open the Minecraft chat window by pressing T, paste the command, and press Enter. The sign will be placed at your location with the text, color, and formatting you set.
What Is This Tool For
This tool is for Minecraft players and server admins who want to create custom signs with specific text colors and glow effects. Common uses include labeled storage rooms, directional signs at spawn points, rule boards on servers, and decorative signs for builds.
Using a command to place signs is faster than manually placing and typing, especially when you need multiple signs with the same formatting.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many characters can each line have?
Each line supports up to 15 characters. Minecraft truncates any text beyond that limit.
What does glow ink do?
Glow ink makes the text on the sign appear brighter and more legible, especially in dark environments. In-game, you apply glow ink by right-clicking a sign with a glow ink sac.
Can I use multiple text colors on one sign?
This tool sets a single color for all text on the sign. For multi-color signs, you would need to manually construct the command with individual line color components.
Does this work for Bedrock Edition?
No. The command syntax for placing signs with text differs between Java and Bedrock Edition. This tool generates Java Edition commands.
What is the difference between crimson and warped signs?
Crimson and warped are Nether wood types. Crimson has a red-tinted appearance, and warped has a teal/green appearance. Unlike regular wood, they do not burn.
