Every Minecraft Java Edition server JAR file, in one place. Find the version you need, download it directly from Mojang’s website, and start focusing on getting your server online.
What is a Minecraft server JAR?
The Minecraft server.jar is the software that runs a Minecraft multiplayer server. You download it, run it on your computer or a hosting provider, and players connect to your IP address to join your world.
Mojang releases a new server JAR with every Minecraft update. Each version has its own unique JAR file – you can’t run a 1.21 server on a 26.1 JAR, and players on version 1.21 can’t connect to a 26.1 server unless you use plugins like ViaVersion.
What is the difference between release and download?
Release versions (e.g. 1.8.8, 1.21.1, 26.1) are stable and tested builds of major Minecraft versions. This is usually what you want if you’re looking for a “Minecraft Update” version, and it’s what adds features directly to main game.
Snapshot versions (e.g. 25w46a, 1.21.5-pre3) 26.1-rc3) are development builds released while Mojang is working on the next update. These are unstable and not recommended for public servers, but they do let you test and play with upcoming features.
