One of the biggest automotive surprises I’ve had this year has been the 2018 RAM 1500 Laramie Longhorn. When I first found out I was going to be recording a RAM truck, I was unsure of what the experience was going to be until I started researching the 2018 Laramie Longhorn edition. That’s when the surprises started happening. My view on trucks has completely changed after reviewing what I consider to be the BMW 7 Series of utilitarian trucks. The Laramie Longhorn RAM 1500 is truly a spectacular showcase of how far the automotive industry has come in the last few years. Let’s dive in to our overview of the 2018 RAM 1500 Laramie Longhorn.
The 2018 RAM Laramie Longhorn has quite a few distinctive attributes compared to the base model RAM 1500. With the chrome accents and Longhorn badges placed on the tailgate and quarter panels, the Laramie Longhorn makes a statement. I’m not quite sure what statement that is, but it certainly stands out when compared to other trucks on the road.
The contrasting body colors on the Longhorn are also another one of my favorite aspects of the massive 5.7L HEMI powered truck. It adds a touch of class in a world of bland options for trucks. Everything about the 2018 Longhorn stands out compared to the competition, and it looks much more prestigious sitting next to a GMC Sierra Denali, which are so common at this point they look average.
One of the greatest parts of the exterior is that the truck is still utilitarian. Whereas luxury SUVs are losing most of their ability to drive over even a curb, the Laramie Longhorn is still capable of being a workhorse. If fitted, the Longhorn has the ability to lock the diff in order to make it over even the most difficult of obstacles. The Longhorn is the Land Rover Discovery 5 of trucks. Even the air suspension on the RAM 1500 Laramie Longhorn is impressive compared to most other air suspensions, especially considering it increases to over 10 inches of ground clearance.
If you’re looking to be able to haul over 10,000 pounds, make it over any obstacle, adjust your air suspension, and feel like a boss doing it with space for your office in the truck bed, the 2018 RAM Laramie Longhorn is the perfect option. What makes it even better, though, is the fact that your entire office could sit within in spacious and luxurious interior with no complains. The interior is one of the pieces of the 2018 RAM Laramie Longhorn that you have to see for yourself, as pictures do very little justice for the detail put into it.
The stitching, contrasting leather, woods, and materials make the 2018 RAM Laramie Longhorn stand out from every other truck on the market, and the experience of driving or riding in the truck is unlike anything else. The air suspension makes the ride comfortable, quiet, and refined compared to what I’m used to in a truck. I was truly blown away with how luxurious the interior of the RAM was compared to even my 2011 Range Rover. It made the Range Rover feel average, and that’s not something that typically happens.
Overall, the interior is extremely spacious, comfortable, quiet, and an overall luxurious experience that I was NOT expecting from a truck. I’m still blown away with how detailed everything was. The only thing I found a bit odd was the floor vents in the rear underneath the front seats. Instead of a smooth cut for the vents to come through the carpet, it appears that a 4 year old took a dull blade to it. There’s the true purpose of the utilitarian truck coming through right there.
I have many favorite features of the 2018 RAM Laramie Longhorn, but overall, I think my favorite is the air suspension system. One of the best parts is that the Laramie Longhorn can adjust it’s suspension with the key. Even if the system is in the highest possible Off-Road 2 setting, which raises the truck 2 inches from normal height), the button on the key will allow the system to lower all the way to the lowest setting (Park Mode).
The air suspension system also features a “Highway” mode that lower the vehicle an inch from normal ride height to increase fuel economy by 1%. I know that may seem like a useless feature, but when you consider the fact that the 2018 RAM Laramie Longhorn is powered by a 5.7L HEMI V8, that 1% increase will make a huge difference over the lifetime of the truck.
On top of the air suspension, another favorite feature of mine with the 2018 RAM Laramie Longhorn is the attention to detail on the interior. As I said, I’m still blown away by how amazing the interior on the RAM was, as my previous experience with trucks was not a fond one. It blows my mind with how luxurious this truck was compared to other models, including the 2018 GMC Sierra Denali.
Another weird thing I loved about the 2018 RAM 1500 Laramie Longhorn was the chrome accents. I’m normally not a huge fan of chrome on vehicles. I feel like it was an early 2000s fad that is still trying to die off, but I love the chrome details on the 2018 RAM Laramie Longhorn. It adds a touch of class to the truck that most lack. While I would probably get sick of looking the consistently fading chrome accents, it looks great on a new truck.
In truth, I’m still astonished with how luxurious this workhorse is, and it’s one of my favorite vehicles for the 2018 model year. I love the detail, quality, and styling of this truck. While I’m not fond of the front grill on the 2018 models, I still think the 2018 RAM Laramie Longhorn is the best looking truck on the market, and, if forced to choose a truck for a new car, the RAM Laramie Longhorn edition would be my first choice.
